Statisics/ background information
More than 100 billion garments are produced annually. Yet, 87% of textile waste is sent to landfills or incinerated in the world. 7 out of 10 Malaysians admitted to throwing clothes away in a year and is estimated that fabric takes up 20 to 200 years to decompose depending on its structure and composition.
Why you should pledge?
With fast fashion being all the rage, we have to stop and think. Is it worth it to keep up with current fashion trends when our future will be badly affected by what we buy today? We need to be more responsible and conscious as consumers because we play a vital role in ensuring a cleaner environment and finding solutions for unwanted clothes so they are not sent away and fill up our landfills. Let’s adopt a sustainable fashion sense to make the earth a better place.
What are you pledging to?
So, I pledge to help with this issue by :
- Repurposing old worn-out clothes
- Altering or refashioning my old clothes to fix them or make them look new
- Borrowing clothes from friends and family instead of buying new clothes.
- Recycling unwanted garments responsibly so it doesn’t end up in our landfills
